Muscle Overlap/Flap Technique
A reconstruction technique that uses muscle near the surgical area to fill in or cover the area where some or all of the parotid gland was removed. This can work well for many patients, but there are times when it doesn’t provide enough volume and can lose volume over time.
This technique tends to work better for smaller defects than it does for larger defects. The patient may also develop new sensations in the area where the muscle is moved from after surgery.
