Dermal Fat Graft
A reconstruction technique used during a parotidectomy that transfers a portion of the deep skin and fat cells from one part of the body and uses it to help fill in the parotid defect. The fat can be contoured and tailored to fit the defect.
This method requires another incision (generally on the stomach) to obtain fat for the reconstruction. This method can work well for many patients and generally holds up well over time, but there is a chance that some of the fat can be resorbed by the body over time.
